A Sophomore Makes School History as Hen Hud Track & Field Shines at State Championships

Sophia Savatgy made Hen Hud history, winning two titles at the NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships.

Led by a history-making performance by Sophia Savatgy, the Hendrick Hudson High School Track & Field team delivered an outstanding performance at the NYSPHSAA Championships this past weekend at Webster Schroeder High School!

Savatgy, a sophomore, became the first Sailor to win two state titles at the same meet, according to coach Marcia Bailey. She captured Class B state titles in both the 100m and 200m dashes and placing third in the 400m. She also qualified for and placed in the Federation finals in all three events.

“No Hen Hud Track and Field athlete has ever been a double State Champion, let alone twice in the same year," Bailey said. of Savatgy, who holds school records in all sprint events.

Junior Perry Quaye earned second place in the Class B High Jump and also placed in the Federation competition. Sophomore Taiten Robinson placed fourth in the Class B Pentathlon, competing across five events. Junior Oona McManus finished fifth in the Class B 800m and continues to hold the school record in that event.

The girls 400m relay team of Michelle Ikokwu, Elyse Smith, Alexis Smith, and Isabella Veloz placed 16th in the state.

“All-in-all, it was a fantastic meet with super performances,” said Bailey. “The entire Track and Field coaching staff and teammates are all very, very proud.”

Congratulations to all of our outstanding athletes on an incredible weekend. Great job, Sailors!
